Video Surveillance Recorders: DVR vs NVR
When looking for a security camera system, you’ll need to choose from two kinds: DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and NVR (Network Video Recorder). They both record and store video, but they do it differently.
DVR devices are used with analog cameras, which send footage to the recorders via cables. The DVR then processes the video footage. Unlike NVR systems, DVRs do not record audio.
NVR devices are newer and more advanced. They can be wired or wireless and are used with IP (Internet Protocol) cameras, which capture video and audio data themselves.
After video is processed, DVR and NVR systems work similarly. You can view video remotely from your smart phone or other device with either system. DVR systems are usually lower in cost, but NVR systems provide higher quality recording and offer more advanced features.
